Different media require different amounts of time to produce a finished work. Colored pencil is the most time-intense media, requiring approximately 25 hours for a single subject portrait with no background items. Pencil and pen are detail-intense media, but require less time (approximately 15 hours) to produce a portrait (again: single subject, no background items) since color is not a factor. Oil paintings require approximately the same amount of time as pencil or pen, but the support (I use wrapped, stretched canvas) and paints are more expensive.
