Webster defines "dressage" as the art or method of training a horse in obedience and precision of movement.
Kajun

When people ask me what "dressage" is I always ask if they have seen the movie: White Stallions of Vienna and they kind-of get the idea. Except that we don't jump up in the air unless we're having a training problem!

Dressage is a little like chess or bridge or computer software: you can learn it all your life and never master it. I guess that's why I love it. I'm the perpetual student.

Anyway, I've been riding since I was 2 years old, but I won't bore you with the story of how my grandpop put me on his work mule's back everyday and led me down the road, or how, when I was older, I started jumping that poor mule over hedges until he took pity on her and bought me a horse! And I won't waste your time telling you about how that horse hated children and bit me, bucked me off, and ran me down until I learned a very valuable lesson: Discipline, firmness and love can open an animal's heart and make him your partner. I won't write about all the horses I've been lucky enough to buy, breed, ride and learn from since then. That's another website.
